Zalew Szałe is a good place to observe migrating ducks, such as Rață fluierătoare, Rață sulițar and Rață mică. On the reservoir itself, you can spot many species of gulls, divers, and grebes, such as Cufundar polar, Pescăruș pontic and Pescăruș sur, which breeds here. Rarities such as Rață cu cap alb, Sitar de mal nordic and Pescăruș de ghețuri have appeared on the reservoir.
Szałe isn't just a reservoir, it encompasses everything surrounding it. In the surrounding Winiary forest, you can spot interesting species like Ciocănitoare neagră, Ciocârlie de pădure and Cojoaică de pădure. Lăstun de mal and gulls nest readily on the slopes near the reservoir, and in the local fields, you can observe Nagâț and Capîntortură. Zalew Szałe is located directly southeast of Kalisz. The easiest way to park is at one of the nearby parking lots or use public transport (Pokrzywnicka Tama), where city buses run. Press a P on the map for directions. The route shown on the map is about 10 km.
