Description
Punta Paloma is good for watching migrating birds. Its position right at the Strait of Gibraltar creates a natural bottleneck where millions of birds pass between Africa and Europe during spring and autumn migration every year. You can see raptors gliding overhead and flocks of small migrants moving through.
During autumn migration on days when the strong easterly winds make crossing difficult, many raptors gather on the European side before attempting the journey. It’s an impressive sight: Acvilă mică, Gaie neagră, Șerpar or vultures circling above the area. You’ll also notice Prigorie, Rândunică, Lăstun de casă, and many small passerines using the pine groves around Punta Paloma as a resting point.
