Description
Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large Ploier auriu flocks in winter, with records of Ploier auriu american and Ploier auriu asiatic. Passage Culic mic and Fugaci roșcat. Winter Fugaci de mare. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the Chiră micăs that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.
Cufundar mic and Cufundar mare, and occasionally Cufundar polar, can be seen offshore in winter, and Cufundar cu cioc alb has been recorded.
Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included Gușă vânătă, Frunzăriță galbenă and Pietrar de deșert. Pasărea omătului regular in winter. Sfrâncioc roșiatic and Sfrâncioc mare have both occurred on passage.
