The lake is famous for having one of the largest breeding colonies of Chiră de baltă in Oxfordshire. There are also Lișiță and Corcodel mare nesting.

Description

There are many birds in Hinksey Lake, and many nesting. It is next to Hinksey Park and is popular during summer for fisherman and swimmers. Chiră de baltă breed on floating platforms in large numbers. Lișiță, Corcodel mare, Lebădă de vară, Rață moțată also breed in the area. Rață cu cap negru was seen here once.

Access

Hinksey Lake is located in the south of the city. The site is a 10 minutes drive from Oxford city center. Park at South Oxford Community Center if possible and view from Devil's Backbone bridge.
