Description
Marden Quarry local nature reserve has mature woodland and limestone grassland, virtually the only exposure of magnesium limestone north of the River Tyne. A large wildfowl lake supporting breeding birds such as the Lebădă de vară, Rață mare, Lișiță, and Găinușă de baltă. Other common birds you can observe in the area include Gâscă de vară, Gâscă canadiană, Rață pestriță, Rață cu cap castaniu, Porumbel gulerat, Cocoșar, Sturzul viilor, Aușel cu cap galben, Pițigoi codat, Ciocănitoare pestriță mare and Drepnea neagră.
The natural cover provided here, only half a mile from the coast, can also attract migrants/vagrants. This has in the past included Mugurar roșu, Pitulice verzuie, Pitulice arctică, Muscar mic and Pitulice cu sprânceană galbenă.
