Description
The reservoir is shallow, having only a maximum depth of 9m (30’), which makes it very attractive to both dabbling and diving ducks. It occasionally attracts less common wildfowl, such as Ferestraș mare and Rață neagră and Corcodel cu gât roșu, Corcodel cu gât negru and Corcodel de iarnă. Waders are often present in spring and autumn, including Bătăuș, Fluierar de zăvoi, Becațină comună, Fluierar cu picioare roșii, Scoicar and Prundăraș gulerat mic. Scaling Dam can also be an excellent place to watch raptors and, from the hide, an eye should always be kept on the moorland plateau and valleys for Erete vânăt, Erete de stuf, Șoim de iarnă and Șoim călător and, if you are extremely lucky, Gaie roșie or Șorecar încălțat. The site is also good for summer visitors, such as Cuc, Mărăcinar mare and Pitulice fluierătoare, and residents like Mărăcinar negru, Codobatură de munte and Vrabie de câmp.
There is a hide for birdwatching where you might see Nagâț, Gâscă de vară, Gâscă canadiană, Lebădă de iarnă and many wading birds.
