Description
Talybont Reservoir has two bird hides, car parking, and a nice cafe in the village. Shallow water, marshland and exposed mud at the top end attract dabbling ducks, waders especially Sitar de pădure, Becațină comună, Becațină mică, Stârc cenușiu, Egretă mică and Cârstel de baltă in autumn and winter. The woods have Muscar negru, Șorecar comun, Huhurez mic, Țiclean, Cojoaică de pădure and Caprimulg. In the surrounding streams look for Codobatură de munte, Pescărel negru and Mărăcinar negru. And on the moors may be Culic mare, Ploier auriu, Ieruncă scoțiană, Corb, Fâsă de luncă and Pietrar sur . The nearby canal has Pescăraș albastru.

Access
Between Brecon and Abergavenny. Take the B4558 and turn south in Talybont village. A regular bus service runs through the village, from which it's a 2 mile walk to the reservoir. The circular route up to Tor y Foel is 5 km, with 250 metres of ascent. Stout boots, a hiking pole, snacks, a drink and waterproof clothing are recommended.
