Description
The area is of great importance for breeding birds of semi-natural grasslands and wetlands. Around 80 species of breeding birds are recorded annually, including Большой кроншнеп, Чибис, Белый аист , Малая поганка, Водяной пастушок, Перепел, Чирок-трескунок, Чирок-свистунок, Широконоска, Серая утка, Чеглок, Обыкновенная кукушка, Варакушка, Черноголовый чекан, Тростниковая камышевка (rarely Камышевка-барсучок and Дроздовидная камышевка) and Обыкновенный жулан. Large flocks of Белолобый гусь use the area during winter, and also a small group of Пискулька from a rewilding project in Sweden has established a "tradition" to visit the area for wintering, starting in 2017. In late winter, the area serves as roosting place for hundreds of Серый журавль and during spring migration, a great variety of ducks and waders can be encountered. Occasionally, rarities show up (e.g. Рыжая цапля, Белоглазый нырок, Малый погоныш).
