Description

The Büsnauer Wiesental (Büsnau meadow valley) is a protected area to the south-west of Stuttgart in direct proximity to the university campus Stuttgart Vaihingen, the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research and the Pfaffenwald forest. The Wiesental consists of meadows, small streams and ponds, hedges and a few reeds and is the only remaining part of a once much larger meadow landscape.

Even though the area is quite small, the Büsnauer Wiesental can be excellent for a variety of passerine birds that are rather uncommon or rare around the city of Stuttgart. Сойка, Ополовник, Желтоголовый королёк, Черноголовая гаичка, Обыкновенная овсянка, Рябинник, Обыкновенный скворец and Средний пёстрый дятел can be found here throughout the entire year. Тростниковая камышевка, Болотная камышевка, Садовая славка, Красноголовый королёк, Обыкновенный жулан and Чёрный коршун are common to uncommon summer guests. In winter, Деряба, Чиж and Обыкновенный дубонос can readily be observed, while Снегирь and Горный конёк are uncommon.

With some luck, migration can bring in particular highlights, like Луговой чекан, Каменка or Мухоловка-пеструшка, as well as Луговой конёк and Лесной конёк.

Though technically not part of the protected area, the nearby Pfaffenwald forest houses many interesting forest birds that can sometimes even be observed around the edges of the area. These include Московка, Хохлатая синица, Обыкновенная пищуха and Желна. The roost of a Серая неясыть is just at the edge of the forest and well known by local birders.
