Great Cumbrae Island is a good place to see Северная олуша which nest on nearby Ailsa Craig. Also auks, terns, skuas, sea ducks especially Морянка, shearwaters and Глупыш. Waders including Кулик-сорока, Большой кроншнеп, Камнешарка, Морской песочник best viewed at the north end. Warblers including Обыкновенный сверчок nest in abundance.

10 minute car or pedestrian ferry from Largs, which is 27 miles west of Glasgow via A760. Train or bus available in Largs. Drive, cycle or walk around the island's coast. Boat trips also available. A circular walk of the island is 16 km/10 miles.
