Description
Talybont Reservoir has two bird hides, car parking, and a nice cafe in the village. Shallow water, marshland and exposed mud at the top end attract dabbling ducks, waders especially Вальдшнеп, Бекас, Гаршнеп, Серая цапля, Малая белая цапля and Водяной пастушок in autumn and winter. The woods have Мухоловка-пеструшка, Канюк, Серая неясыть, Обыкновенный поползень, Обыкновенная пищуха and Обыкновенный козодой. In the surrounding streams look for Горная трясогузка, Оляпка and Черноголовый чекан. And on the moors may be Большой кроншнеп, Золотистая ржанка, Белая куропатка, Ворон, Луговой конёк and Каменка . The nearby canal has Обыкновенный зимородок.

Access
Between Brecon and Abergavenny. Take the B4558 and turn south in Talybont village. A regular bus service runs through the village, from which it's a 2 mile walk to the reservoir. The circular route up to Tor y Foel is 5 km, with 250 metres of ascent. Stout boots, a hiking pole, snacks, a drink and waterproof clothing are recommended.
