Description
Westwood Dam and Woodland is a hidden gem for birdwatching in Sheffield. The area has a variety of birds of prey including Канюк, Сапсан, Пустельга обыкновенная, Перепелятник, Серая неясыть and Домовый сыч. As well as this, the small streams and brooks found within the woodland support Горная трясогузка territories, as well as small numbers of Серая мухоловка in the summer.
Winter migrants include Белобровик and Рябинник, as well as the occasional flock of Свиристель. Summer sightings include migrant Пеночка-весничка, Садовая славка, and Теньковка, as well as breeding Вальдшнеп territories. The open water of Westwood Dam and Reservoir can produce some surprises, including Лебедь-кликун in previous years. The woodland supported some of the city's last known pairs of Малый пёстрый дятел in the early 2000s.
