Description

Parque Provincial de la Araucaria is a small protected park of 92 hectares in the town of San Pedro. The park gets visits because of the Araucaria trees here, and the upland Araucaria forest "Big 5" endemic birds to be found here.

1 - Having reputedly the highest density of Canebrake Groundcreeper in the world is the big pull, though plenty have gone away without seeing this arch-skulker hiding away in the lower bamboo strata.

2 - Easier, though patience is still needed, to see Araucaria Tit-Spinetail high in the pom-poms of mature Araucaria trees.

3 - This is Helmeted Woodpecker country too, but very infrequently seen.

4 - You should, on the other hand, get to see the critically endangered Vinaceous-breasted Parrot pairs coming in to roost in the evening.

5 - Last Araucaria specialty is Azure Jay. Very rare but still to be found.
