Description

Punta Cana Ecological Reserve is a protected natural area located within the Puntacana Resort & Club complex. It covers about 1,500 acres of pristine land dedicated to conservation, research, native wildlife and natural habitats. The park has a variety of trees, lush tropical vegetation and open park habitat with walking trails. Sewage treatment ponds with a viewing tower. Birds you can observe include Hispaniolan Lizard-Cuckoo, Broad-billed Tody, White-cheeked Pintail, Black-necked Stilt, Greater Antillean Bullfinch, Ridgway's Hawk, Vervain Hummingbird and Hispaniolan Woodpecker.

Access

The Punta Cana Ecological Foundation is located about 10 minutes south of downtown Punta Cana and very close to Punta Cana International Airport, making the area easily accessible. Press P on the map for directions. The reserve is open daily from 8:00 or 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM. For those staying at a resort transportation can be booked from the hotel.

Guided birding tours are available and can be booked via the foundation's website. The guided tour took 2 hours. Most suited to beginner or intermediate level birders.
