Description
The Büsnauer Wiesental (Büsnau meadow valley) is a protected area to the south-west of Stuttgart in direct proximity to the university campus Stuttgart Vaihingen, the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research and the Pfaffenwald forest. The Wiesental consists of meadows, small streams and ponds, hedges and a few reeds and is the only remaining part of a once much larger meadow landscape.
Even though the area is quite small, the Büsnauer Wiesental can be excellent for a variety of passerine birds that are rather uncommon or rare around the city of Stuttgart. sojka obyčajná, mlynárka dlhochvostá, králik zlatohlavý, sýkorka hôrna, strnádka obyčajná, drozd čvíkota, škorec obyčajný and ďateľ prostredný can be found here throughout the entire year. trsteniarik bahenný, trsteniarik obyčajný, penica slávikovitá, králik ohnivohlavý, strakoš obyčajný and haja tmavá are common to uncommon summer guests. In winter, drozd trskota, stehlík čížik and glezg obyčajný can readily be observed, while hýľ obyčajný and ľabtuška vrchovská are uncommon.
With some luck, migration can bring in particular highlights, like pŕhľaviar červenkastý, skaliarik sivý or muchárik čiernohlavý, as well as ľabtuška lúčna and ľabtuška hôrna.
Though technically not part of the protected area, the nearby Pfaffenwald forest houses many interesting forest birds that can sometimes even be observed around the edges of the area. These include sýkorka uhliarka, sýkorka chochlatá, kôrovník dlhoprstý and tesár čierny. The roost of a sova lesná is just at the edge of the forest and well known by local birders.
