Description
Burghead is situated on a narrow promontory projecting into the Moray Firth. The place is good for sea ducks in winter and waders on shore at low tide. Among the birds you can see are kajka morská, ľadovka dĺhochvostá, turpan čierny, turpan tmavý, alka vrúbkozobá, norec tenkozobý, svišťúň zrkadlový, potápač prostredný, pobrežník hrdzavý, hvizdák veľký, kamenár strakatý, pobrežník morský, lastúrničiar strakatý, hlaholka severská, ľabtuška skalná and kormorán chochlatý. In summer the bay is fishing ground for kršiak rybár. Besides birds you can spot seals and dolphins. The Moray Firth is home to over 1500 common seals, and up to 500 grey seals come into the Firth in the summer. The Moray Firth is also home to the most northerly resident population of bottle nose dolphins in the world and on a calm day dolphins can be seen leaping out of the water.
