The Fal Estuary is located on the south coast of Cornwall. It is the county's largest estuary and a classic ria, or drowned river valley. The estuary extends from its entrance between Pendennis Point and St Anthony Head, 18 km inland to its northernmost tidal limit at Tresillian, with a total shoreline length of 127 km. You can do 3, 4 or 7-hour boat trips from Falmouth (info@akwildlifecruises.co.uk) with possible views of 8 cetacean species, basking shark, alka vrúbkozobá, fulmar ľadový, shearwaters, petrels, divers, rare grebes (best place in the UK for potápka čiernokrká), ľadovka dĺhochvostá, turpan čierny. For best landbased views, observe from eastern shore. From A30 follow signs through St Austell to St Mawes.
For sea trips, Falmouth is accessed from A30 by passing through Truro. For a shorter boat trip in calmer waters, try the St Mawes to Falmouth ferry.
