Description
Gilestone Farm, nestled along the River Usk in Powys, Wales, is a haven for birdwatchers, offering diverse habitats that attract an array of bird species. The farm is particularly renowned for being the nesting site of kršiak rybár , a rare and majestic raptor, marking a historic milestone for southern Wales. In addition to kršiak rybár, the area hosts a variety of waders, songbirds, and waterfowl, thanks to its mix of wetlands, grasslands, and scattered trees.
Birders may also spot haja červená, volavka popolavá, and rybárik riečny among the scenic landscapes. The farm’s tranquil environment, coupled with the opportunity to witness unique avian behavior, makes it an ideal destination for bird enthusiasts seeking both relaxation and rewarding wildlife experiences.

Access
You can park in Talybont-on-Usk only, preferably near the lifting bridge to get to the path faster. Press P on the map for directions. Access to the actual farm where kršiak rybár are nesting is not allowed, due the nesting of kršiak rybár there being very recent. An ideal visit would be about 2-4 hours, depending on if you wish to stay at the Osprey viewpoint or keep on walking to see the scenic backround of Gilestone Farm.
There is only one path and it is by the edge of the farm, where it borders the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal on the left, and Gilestone Farm on the right. The path is recommended for cycling and walking.
