Description
A walk from the town of Modbury along footpaths and green lanes crossing farmland and sometimes crossing springs and small shallow rivers (wear suitable footwear).
(1). Leave the long stay car park in Modbury (fee payable), heading South passing through the Health Care car park, eventually crossing the ancient Mill Leat look out for trasochvost horský here. Continue heading South on a narrow road and then back on a footpath that goes uphill across fields towards Little Modbury Farm (or The Lugger's Farm).
(2). After passing Little Modbury, with views of Dartmoor in the far distance to the North, look for myšiak hôrny, sokol myšiar (pustovka), krkavec čierny and the occasional haja červená. In Winter sokol kobec are regularly seen, with penica čiernohlavá, lastovička obyčajná and penica obyčajná during Summer. Continue heading West and briefly rejoin the road, going over a style and down steps to walk along.
(3). Rogues Roost, so called because it was the haunt of highwayman apparently. stehlík obyčajný and strnádka obyčajná are common here, listen out for the 'cronking' of krkavec čierny and flight song of škovránok poľný overhead.
(4). On passing Cottlass Farm turn right onto footpath that follows the Ayleston Brook back to Modbury.
(*). Alternatively continue on Rogues Roost (marked with STAR on map) eventually turning right to join Runaway Lane back to Modbury.
(5). In Modbury at St George's churchyard, look for broken snail shells, evidence left behind by the local drozd plavý.

Access
The A379 main road from Plymouth (to the West) and Aveton Gifford (to the South East) passes directly through Modbury. Press P on map for directions. The circular walking route is about 6 km.
