Description
The reservoir is shallow, having only a maximum depth of 9m (30’), which makes it very attractive to both dabbling and diving ducks. It occasionally attracts less common wildfowl, such as potápač veľký and turpan čierny and potápka červenokrká, potápka čiernokrká and potápka ušatá. Waders are often present in spring and autumn, including bojovník bahenný, kalužiak perlavý, močiarnica mekotavá, kalužiak červenonohý, lastúrničiar strakatý and kulík riečný. Scaling Dam can also be an excellent place to watch raptors and, from the hide, an eye should always be kept on the moorland plateau and valleys for kaňa sivá, kaňa močiarna, sokol kobec and sokol sťahovavý and, if you are extremely lucky, haja červená or myšiak severský. The site is also good for summer visitors, such as kukučka obyčajná, pŕhľaviar červenkastý and kolibiarik spevavý, and residents like pŕhľaviar čiernohlavý, trasochvost horský and vrabec poľný.
There is a hide for birdwatching where you might see cibík chochlatý, hus divá, bernikľa veľká, labuť spevavá and many wading birds.
