Description

Starcross and Cockwood Harbour on the West Bank of the Exe Estuary, has the Paddington to Penzance main railway line running North to South. Whilst this line runs along an embankment that obscures views of the main estuary, there are a number of crossing places, ie at Starcross station a pedestrian footbridge and at other places there are pedestrian level crossings (BE AWARE OF TRAINS STOP/LOOK/LISTEN). As well as the main estuary the many fields to the West of the main road can hold Waders, Ducks and Geese that feed/roost at high tide and following periods of prolonged heavy rain. At Cockwood Harbour the road on the West side has NO pavement, so check this area from the North or South sides. During Summer months this area gets VERY BUSY, most birdwatchers visit this area outside of this time, during Spring/Autumn and especially Winter the birds you can expect to see are bernikľa tmavá (both Pale/Dark bellied), brehár čiernochvostý, brehár hrdzavý, hvizdák veľký, hvizdák malý, pobrežník čiernozobý, kamenár strakatý, bojovník bahenný, kulík piesočný, kulík zlatý, kulík bledý, pobrežník hrdzavý, kačica hvizdárka kačica chrapka, kačica ostrochvostá and kačica lyžičiarka, as well as many other species.
