Description
An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly kolibiarik spevavý and kolibiarik čipčavý, but also penica popolavá and penica čiernohlavá. More mature trees provide habitat for sova lesná. brhlík obyčajný and alexander malý have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular rybárik riečny and trasochvost horský, and occasional vodnár potočný in winter. In its lower tidal section kalužiak červenonohý is regular, and the semi-tame kačica divás can attract other ducks, including kazarka pestrá, kačica chrapka, and more rarely kačica ostrochvostá and kačička mandarínska. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; potáplica veľká, norec tenkozobý and alka vrúbkozobá have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of čajka trojprstás moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.
