Description
Marais d'Olives is a young wetland, restored after decades of intensive agriculture. Bordeaux Métropole bought the land in 2016 and began re‑establishing a functional marsh: reopening water circulation and allowing spontaneous vegetation to return. The site covers about 86 hectares. A short 1.5 km educational trail, a birdwatching hide, and a viewpoint let visitors follow the slow transformation of the landscape. Marais d’Olives is part of the larger Parc des Jalles, a 6,000‑hectare mosaic of rivers, wet meadows, farmland, and natural zones. Bird you can observe include modra taščica, rjavi lunj, pepelasti lunj, mala bela caplja, velika bela čaplja, kreheljc, labod grbec, priba, lebduh and many others.
