Description
Kiesseen Prettin is a body of water of 112 hectare located on the Elbe River near Prettin. Characteristic are the shoals and the sandbanks, some of which lie in the middle of the water. Almost 50 breeding bird species are known on the site. The waterfowl include labod grbec and liska. The vertical bank walls are inhabited by breguljka, and školjkarica breeds on the gravelly flat banks. srpična trstnica, močvirska trstnica and trstni strnad live in the reed beds, while slavec and plašica live in the damp wood along the banks. The dry bushes are inhabited by rjavi srakoper, rjava penica and mlinarček, while navadna postovka, kobilar and poljski vrabec breed in the trees. jerebica, repaljščica, čopasti škrjanec and kupcar live on the ruderal and barren areas. The gravel lakes are also important for resting migrating waterfowl, especially Njivska gos (serrirostris), beločela gos, sivka, čopasta črnica and veliki žagar.
