Description
Chief habitats in Elan Valley and Gigrin Kites are: streams and open water, frequented by grebes, povodni kos and siva pastirica. The ancient sessile oak woodland is home to pogorelček, črnoglavi muhar, grmovščica, dolgoprsti plezalček, skobec and open moorland containing močvirska uharica, mali sokol, veliki škurh, zlata prosenka, spremenljivi prodnik, Red Grouse, kupcar, poljski škrjanec, prosnik pepelasti lunj and krokar.

Access
Kite feeding station south of Rhayader feeds daily each afternoon. It has a hide and parking. Reservoirs are west of Rhayader and have several car parks, wetland birds usually at top ends. For a circular drive to see 4 of the 5 reservoirs, keep turning right to follow Elan valley. Claerwen reservoir is a dead end for cars.
