At Gunthorpe Gravel Pits 120+ species of bird have been seen, including mali žagar, veliki žagar and srednji žagar in winter, when priba, žličarica and teal can be numerous on flooded fields. Spring brings srpična trstnica, bičja trstnica, kobiličar to breed, and črna čigra, kupcar and repaljščica on migration. In summer, škrjančar hunt swallows over the ponds.
