Description
Loch Gruinart is one of the best places in Scotland to see planinska vrana (northernmost nesting site), kosec (a few) and wintering geese (up to 50,000, mostly grivasta gos, belolična gos, siva gos and kratkokljuna gos, plus labod pevec). The RSPB reserve has a hide, a visitor centre and Natural history centre. Birds here include belorepec, planinski orel, mali sokol, pepelasti lunj, Mokož, grahasta tukalica, 16 regular wader species, 3 tern species, 3 diver species, močvirska uharica, severni repnik and obalna vriskarica.
At the sea end of the loch, Ardnare Point is a good seawatch location for viewing strmoglavec, divers, shearwaters, skuas, auks and sea ducks such as zimska raca, crna raca and srednji žagar. Best place also for planinska vrana. Ardnare loch is favoured by wintering dabbling ducks - kreheljc, žvižgavka, konopnica and žličarica.
