Description
Rush Hill Scrape is on the south side of NWT Hickling, and offers wetland, reedbed and wet woodland habitats boasting all of the iconic broadland species. It is possible to see žerjav, bobnarica rjavi lunj and brkata sinica here at any time of year, when walking the paths alongside the reedbed. The wet woodland offers opportunities to find močvirska sinica and dolgoprsti plezalček, while the surrounding farmland supports several rumeni strnad.
In spring and autumn, Rush Hill Scrape can be a fantastic place to look for passage waders. You may find togotnik, spremenljivi prodnik, rdečenogi martinec, zelenonogi martinec, mali martinec, pikasti martinec, komatni deževnik and possibly something rarer. You may potentially see something rarer if the water levels a low, such as močvirski martinec, mali prodnik, srpokljuni prodnik, veliki prodnik, kamenjar or črni martinec. You can chance upon žličarka any time from March to October here also.
The scrape is a great place to find reglja in the spring, while navadna čigra, črna čigra and even mala čigra have been known to drop in occasionally too! Listen out for the song of severni kovaček along the trails in the summer months, as well as srpična trstnica and bičja trstnica.
The winter is quiter at the site, but lucky observers may glipse a sloka in the wet woodland, while zvonec can be found on the broad and there are usually large numbers of kreheljc on the scrape.
