Description
Talybont Reservoir has two bird hides, car parking, and a nice cafe in the village. Shallow water, marshland and exposed mud at the top end attract dabbling ducks, waders especially sloka, kozica, puklež, siva čaplja, mala bela caplja and Mokož in autumn and winter. The woods have črnoglavi muhar, kanja, lesna sova, brglez, dolgoprsti plezalček and podhujka. In the surrounding streams look for siva pastirica, povodni kos and prosnik. And on the moors may be veliki škurh, zlata prosenka, Red Grouse, krokar, travniška cipa and kupcar . The nearby canal has vodomec.

Access
Between Brecon and Abergavenny. Take the B4558 and turn south in Talybont village. A regular bus service runs through the village, from which it's a 2 mile walk to the reservoir. The circular route up to Tor y Foel is 5 km, with 250 metres of ascent. Stout boots, a hiking pole, snacks, a drink and waterproof clothing are recommended.
