Zalew Szałe is a good place to observe migrating ducks, such as Zviždara, Šiljkan and Krdža. On the reservoir itself, you can spot many species of gulls, divers, and grebes, such as Crnogrli morski gnjurac, Sinji galeb and Sivi galeb, which breeds here. Rarities such as Beloglava patka, Laponska muljača and Severni galeb have appeared on the reservoir.
Szałe isn't just a reservoir, it encompasses everything surrounding it. In the surrounding Winiary forest, you can spot interesting species like Crna žuna, Šumska ševa and Kratkokljuni puzić. Bregunica and gulls nest readily on the slopes near the reservoir, and in the local fields, you can observe Vivak and Vijoglava. Zalew Szałe is located directly southeast of Kalisz. The easiest way to park is at one of the nearby parking lots or use public transport (Pokrzywnicka Tama), where city buses run. Press a P on the map for directions. The route shown on the map is about 10 km.
