The Velika zelena pčelarica breeds in Asia, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. They also do so in eastern Turkey. They nest solitarily or in loose colonies of up to ten birds. They sometimes nest in colonies with Pčelarica. The dry and open surroundings of the hamlet of Hüyüklü are a good spot to see Velika zelena pčelarica. They are summer guests and breed in the area. Other birds you can see in the area are Pčelarica, Senegalska grlica, Grlica, Modrovrana, Pupavac, Crni frankolin, Riđi mišar, Crna lunja, Seoski detlić, Obična beloguza, Turska beloguza and Dugorepa grmušarka.
