Description
Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large Zlatni vivak flocks in winter, with records of Američki zlatni vivak and Tihookeanski zlatni vivak. Passage Mala carska šljuka and Riđa sprutka. Winter Morska sprutka. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the Mala čigras that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.
Riđogrli morski gnjurac and Veliki morski gnjurac, and occasionally Crnogrli morski gnjurac, can be seen offshore in winter, and Žutokljuni morski gnjurac has been recorded.
Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included Modrovoljka, Žuti voljić and Pustinjska beloguza. Snežna strnadica regular in winter. Rusi svračak and Veliki svračak have both occurred on passage.
