Description
Tucked away in Leicestershire, the Reedbed Nature Reserve at Watermead Country Park consists of four hides, one of which looks over the fabulous Wanlip Meadows. In winter, Barski petlovan and with a little bit of luck Vodeni bik can be seen stalking in the extensive reedbeds there. Brezova juričica, various Tits and Čižak will visit the feeders from the Kingfisher Hide. Vodomar can also be viewed from most of the hides.
Spring announces the arrival of waders and the marshier area of the River Soar, viewed from the Plover Hide is great for Barska šljuka and Crvenonogi sprudnik. Other waders such as Crnotrba sprutka, Velika carska šljuka and Ostrigar can also be seen around the reserve. Obična čigra, Bregunica, Gradska lasta, Seoska lasta and Crna čiopa all fly around the reserve in spring and summer, with the Bregunica nesting in the bank for them. Autumn is quite an interesting month for migration for more waders such as Krivokljuni sprudnik, Sprudnik pijukavac, Polojka, Sabljarka and Žalar slepić can be viewed from around the reserve.
