Description
The reservoir is shallow, having only a maximum depth of 9m (30’), which makes it very attractive to both dabbling and diving ducks. It occasionally attracts less common wildfowl, such as Veliki ronac and Crni turpan and Riđovrati gnjurac, Crnovrati gnjurac and Ušati gnjurac. Waders are often present in spring and autumn, including Sprudnik ubojica, Sprudnik pijukavac, Barska šljuka, Crvenonogi sprudnik, Ostrigar and Žalar slepić. Scaling Dam can also be an excellent place to watch raptors and, from the hide, an eye should always be kept on the moorland plateau and valleys for Poljska eja, Eja močvarica, Mali soko and Sivi soko and, if you are extremely lucky, Riđa lunja or Gaćasti mišar. The site is also good for summer visitors, such as Obična kukavica, Obična travarka and Brezov zviždak, and residents like Crnoglava travarka, Potočna pliska and Poljski vrabac.
There is a hide for birdwatching where you might see Vivak, Divlja guska, Kanadska guska, Veliki labud and many wading birds.
