Description
An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly Brezov zviždak and Obični zviždak, but also Grmuša čavrljanka and Crnoglava grmuša. More mature trees provide habitat for Šumska sova. Brgljez and Mali aleksandar have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular Vodomar and Potočna pliska, and occasional Vodenkos in winter. In its lower tidal section Crvenonogi sprudnik is regular, and the semi-tame Gluvaras can attract other ducks, including Šarena utva, Krdža, and more rarely Šiljkan and Mandarinka. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; Veliki morski gnjurac, Tankokljuna njorka and Oštrokljuna njorka have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of Troprsti galebs moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.
