Glasfynydd Forest has mostly moorland and woodland species eg Трав'янка чорноголова, Куріпка біла, Горихвістка звичайна, Баранець звичайний, Баранець малий, Підсоколик малий, Боривітер звичайний and Шуліка рудий. In winter Сірий (Великий) сорокопуд, Шишкар ялиновий, Снігур звичайний, Чиж лісовий and Чечітка мала. Few birds on the reservoir but Чирянка мала, Чапля сіра and Крех великий possible. Пронурок біловолий and Плиска гірська below the dam. For Дрімлюга звичайний, look for a recently felled forest area with regrowth of bracken, bramble etc - only active after dark between May and August.

From Swansea take A4067 Tawe valley road then left two miles beyond Danyrogof caves. From A40 Brecon/Llandovery road, turn south from Trecastle. Buses through Trecastle regularly. Train station at Llandovery. The circular walk around the reservoir is 8 km.
