In Glen Tanar 106 bird species have been seen, passerines and raptors prominent. Беркут, Лунь польовий, Яструб малий, Шуліка рудий, Канюк звичайний, Сапсан, Сова болотяна, Золотомушка жовточуба, Шишкар ялиновий, Чиж лісовий, Мухоловка строката. Wildcats possible, also Red Deer, Otter, and Pine Marten. Куріпка біла and Тетерук євразійський occur on higher ground, but although formerly a stronghold for Глушець білодзьобий, these have unfortunately now died out.

Access
Glen Tanar is 6 km (4 miles) SW of Aboyne, which is on the A9 road east of Ballater. The nearest bus service is in Aboyne (6 km). Click on the P in the map to get directions to parking and visitor centre. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 8,5 km.
