Description

The Loch of Skene is a large shallow freshwater lake partially surrounded by woodlands and located within extensive mixed-agriculture farmland. The loch is known for its natural beauty and the variety of wildlife it supports. It is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Ramsar site for wildlife conservation purposes. The area supports concentrations of wildfowl in autumn and winter. Excellent for observing Гуменник короткодзьобий in winter, as well as Гоголь зеленоголовий, Свищ євразійський, Чернь чубата, Гуска сіра and Лебідь-шипун. The lake can attract rare migrants at any time of the year. Скопа fishes in the loch in summer.

Access

The Loch of Skene is located 9 miles (14 km) west of Aberdeen, near the village of Skene. Easy parking on the east side of the lake. Press P for directions to the parking spot. From the parking you can walk through the forest to the lake.
