Description
The reservoir is shallow, having only a maximum depth of 9m (30’), which makes it very attractive to both dabbling and diving ducks. It occasionally attracts less common wildfowl, such as Крех великий and Синьга and Пірникоза сірощока, Пірникоза чорношия and Пірникоза червоношия. Waders are often present in spring and autumn, including Брижач, Коловодник лісовий, Баранець звичайний, Коловодник звичайний, Кулик-сорока and Пісочник малий. Scaling Dam can also be an excellent place to watch raptors and, from the hide, an eye should always be kept on the moorland plateau and valleys for Лунь польовий, Лунь очеретяний, Підсоколик малий and Сапсан and, if you are extremely lucky, Шуліка рудий or Зимняк. The site is also good for summer visitors, such as Зозуля звичайна, Трав’янка лучна and Вівчарик весняний, and residents like Трав'янка чорноголова, Плиска гірська and Горобець польовий.
There is a hide for birdwatching where you might see Чайка чубата, Гуска сіра, Казарка канадська, Лебідь-кликун and many wading birds.
