Description
Westwood Dam and Woodland is a hidden gem for birdwatching in Sheffield. The area has a variety of birds of prey including Канюк звичайний, Сапсан, Боривітер звичайний, Яструб малий, Сіра сова and Сич хатній. As well as this, the small streams and brooks found within the woodland support Плиска гірська territories, as well as small numbers of Мухоловка сіра in the summer.
Winter migrants include Дрізд білобровий and Чикотень, as well as the occasional flock of Омелюх звичайний. Summer sightings include migrant Вівчарик весняний, Кропив’янка садова, and Вівчарик-ковалик, as well as breeding Слуква лісова territories. The open water of Westwood Dam and Reservoir can produce some surprises, including Лебідь-кликун in previous years. The woodland supported some of the city's last known pairs of Дятел малий in the early 2000s.
