The area surrounding Angkor Wat offers a unique combination of ancient temples, moats, forest patches, and open woodland, making it an excellent habitat for many bird species. You can explore the trails and temple surroundings to observe a variety of birds in their natural environment. The peaceful atmosphere at sunrise and the beautiful scenery of Angkor create a truly memorable birdwatching experience. Birds you can encounter include parakeets, barbets, woodpeckers, drongos, and many other forest and woodland birds commonly found in the Angkor area.

Access

Angkor Wat is located 7 km north of Siem Reap. Best starting time is early morning, when birds are most active. Angkor Wat is open every day from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the ticket office opening at 4:30 AM for sunrise visitors. Press P on the map for directions to the ticket office. You can book a half-day birding tour to visit the area with a bird guide and visit the best birding spots.
