This is really good location to spot the diverse birds which are resident here and from December to March there are also Palearctic migrants in the area.

Description

Il Ngwesi Eco-Lodge is located on a bush-covered hill where you can easily spot White-headed Buffalo-Weaver , Common Bulbul (Common) , Laughing Dove , Ring-necked Dove , Fork-tailed Drongo, Superb Starling, Parrot-billed Sparrow, Hunter's Sunbird and the White-bellied Go-away-bird.

Down below the hill around the airstrip, around and on the acacia trees, you will see Little Bee-eater , D'Arnaud's Barbet (D'Arnaud's) , Namaqua Dove , Crested Francolin , Eastern Chanting-Goshawk , Helmeted Guineafowl , Northern Red-billed Hornbill , Von der Decken's Hornbill , Red-billed Quelea , Northern White-crowned Shrike , White-browed Sparrow-Weaver , White-browed Coucal and the very special Golden Pipit.

And on a game drive you will find Verreaux's Eagle-Owl, Nubian Woodpecker, Red-billed Quelea, Ethiopian Swallow, Yellow-necked Spurfowl and many other birds.

There are also a lot of elephants, Reticulated giraffe and Grevy's zebra as well as other wildlife to be found.

Access

Il Ngwesi Eco-Lodge is located about 270 km north of Nairobi. Il Ngwesi can only be reached by car but once you are there you can go on guided walks around the hill. And also in the surrounding nature reserve. You can also explore the reserve by car. It is best to spend a couple of days here because it is a 5 hour drive up here from Nairobi.
