In Glen Tanar 106 bird species have been seen, passerines and raptors prominent. Kaya kartalý, Gökçe delice, Atmaca, Kızıl Çaylak, Şahin, Gök doðan, Kır baykuşu, Çalıkuşu, Çaprazgaga, Karabaşlı iskete, Kara sinekkapan. Wildcats possible, also Red Deer, Otter, and Pine Marten. Kar Tavuğu ssp scotica and Ormanhorozu occur on higher ground, but although formerly a stronghold for büyük orman tavuğu, these have unfortunately now died out.

Glen Tanar is 6 km (4 miles) SW of Aboyne, which is on the A9 road east of Ballater. The nearest bus service is in Aboyne (6 km). Click on the P in the map to get directions to parking and visitor centre. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 8,5 km.
