Description
Westwood Dam and Woodland is a hidden gem for birdwatching in Sheffield. The area has a variety of birds of prey including Şahin, Gök doðan, Kerkenez, Atmaca, Alaca Baykuş and Kukumav. As well as this, the small streams and brooks found within the woodland support Dağ kuyruksallayanı territories, as well as small numbers of Benekli sinekkapan in the summer.
Winter migrants include Kızıl ardıç and Tarla ardıcı, as well as the occasional flock of İpekkuyruk. Summer sightings include migrant Söğütbülbülü, Boz ötleğen, and Çıvgın, as well as breeding Çulluk territories. The open water of Westwood Dam and Reservoir can produce some surprises, including Ötücü kuğu in previous years. The woodland supported some of the city's last known pairs of Küçük ağaçkakan in the early 2000s.
