Description

The Leopoldskroner Weiher is a popular destination for tourists and Salzburgians to go for a walk or jogging. There are a few benches around that can be used to rest and watch waterfowl and urban bird species. The lake is home to many native and exotic breeding bird species such as Mallard, Mandarin Duck, Greylag Goose, Canada Goose, Great Crested Grebe and also hosts a population of Common Goldeneye.

The southeastern part of the lake is a semi-natural, overgrown area that hosts many bird and fish. In the evening, chances are good for watching Grey Heron, Great Egret, Common Kingfisher that regularly hunt for small fish, amphibs and other food sources. During spring and autumn migration the lake is used as a stop-over site for various migratory species before crossing the Alps. Especially after extended rainy periods, birds accumulate and rare species such as Common Sandpiper, Great Bittern or Black-crowned Night Heron have been spotted there.

West of the lake is a small forest. The Königswäldchen is home to Goldcrest, Eurasian Jay, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Tawny Owl and other woodland species.
