Schönauer Teich (Lake of Schönau)

A little fishing lake and nature reserve in Lower Austria south of Vienna. The reed belt is cut annually and harvested every winter between October and March.

Description

Schönauer Teich (Lake Schönau) is located near Schönau an der Triesting. The scenic pond has also one of the most species-rich breeding grounds for waterfowl in Lower Austria and serves as a resting station for migrating birds. Among the birds you can encounter are Common Snipe, Grey Heron, Osprey, Goosander, Great Egret, Red-crested Pochard, Eurasian Moorhen, Eurasian Coot, Great Crested Grebe, Reed Bunting, Reed Warbler, Great Cormorant and Northern Lapwing.

There are several side streets where you can park. Click on a P in the map to get directions to that point. The widely-known cycle route "Wr.-Neustädter-Kanal" which connects Wr. Neustadt and Vienna is directly connected to this location in the south.
