Description
Bistraka is a small lake between the river Struma and the A3 motorway. Its a great place for Little Bittern in the summer. Other birds you can observe include Little Egret, Black Stork, White Stork, Common Pochard, Common Nightingale, Western Marsh Harrier Common Kingfisher, European Bee-eater, Sand Martin, Syrian Woodpecker and Great Reed Warbler. Seasonal migration brings flocks of swallows, wagtails, and warblers, while wintering ducks and geese use the area as resting grounds. The area has also seen rarities like Ferruginous Duck and Red-footed Falcon.

Access
Bistraka lake is located south of the town of Blagoevgrad. It has easy access next to a road. Press P on the map for directions. You can make a 2,5 km circular walk around the lake and also walk to the dams in the Struma river.
