Mouth of Izvorska River

Marshy area surrounded by forested hilly terrain on the southern bank of Mandra Reservoir. Good place to see crakes, Purple Heron and White-tailed Eagle.

Description

The place where Izvorska River joins the Mandra Reservoir is shallow marsh with hilly slopes around, some covered with oak forest, other - with dry bushy grasslands and scattered trees. Marsh vegetation forms a belt also along the adjacent bay of the reservoir. Water Rail, Spotted Crake and Little Crake can be seen on the edge of the water vegetation. Other birds there are Garganey, Ferruginous Duck, White-tailed Eagle, Purple Heron and Squacco Heron, Pygmy Cormorant and other. During migration flocks of White Stork, Black Stork and birds of prey pass over the area.

Access

Follow Road 7908 and stop next to the bridge between the villager of Tvarditsa and Dimchevo. There is plenty of space to park on the Eastern part of the bridge, from where one can walk.
