Description

Neretva River Mouth is a complex of wetland habitats. Vast areas by the banks of the Neretva River and its tributaries are richly developed habitats with reedbeds, as well as other riparian plants. The mouth of the Neretva River combines vast lagoons, shallow sand bays, low sandy shores and shoals, and salt marshes. Reclaimed land is covered by broad arable fields with a well developed network of irrigation channels. Here dwells Croatia's largest breeding populations of Great Bittern and Baillon's Crake. Some of the other birds you can see here are Little Bittern, Western Marsh Harrier, Spotted Crake, Bearded Tit Pygmy Cormorant, Purple Heron, Eurasian Spoonbill, European Roller, Tawny Pipit and Red-backed Shrike.
