Description
The Slatina area is an important breeding site for many birds connected to reedbeds such as Little Bittern (the only location of this species in Prague), Savi's Warbler, Water Rail, Great Reed Warbler, Reed Warbler, Eurasian Moorhen or Reed Bunting. Also the Western Marsh Harrier is breeding here. On the pond itself breeds many pairs of Great Crested Grebe, Eurasian Coot, Mallard and a few pairs of Common Pochard and Tufted Duck. In the linked rural areas breed Red-backed Shrike, Grasshopper Warbler, Common Nightingale and many others. Nearby there is a breeding site of Sand Martin.
During the spring migration you can see birds such as Bluethroat, Whinchat, European Stonechat, Pied Flycatcher, Garganey and many other species of waterfowl, Common Snipe, Northern Lapwing and many, many more species.
Many birds come to spend a night in the reedbed, especially in the end of summer. It is the best place in the area where to watch Common Starling murmuration. Also Barn Swallow and Western Yellow Wagtail come here to spend a night.
During the weekend the location can be overcrowded by people such as fishermen or bikers so I recommend you to visit the location during weekdays. Please do not disturb birds in their breeding habitats and use just visible pathways!

Access
Easily accesible by car. There is a small parking lot in the north of the pond. You can also arrive by public transport using a bus to station Dolnoměcholupská and then 30 minutes walking using the biking trail. It is possible to make a circular route, but only the eastern side of the pond has a paved road.
